Neindorf eyes
win at 2025 Sportsbet Adelaide Racing Carnival

24 April 2025

Young jockey, Lachlan Neindorf is leaving no stone unturned in his pursuit of another Group 1 victory at Morphettville during the 2025 Sportsbet Adelaide Racing Carnival.

The 23-year-old made headlines with his breakthrough win on Phillip Stokes’ Climbing Star in last year’s Sportsbet Robert Sangster Stakes. Since then, he has continually focused on refining his craft.

“Obviously, every jockey strives to achieve that pinnacle of their career and in horse racing it’s winning a Group 1,” Neindorf told Morphettville Media.

“I’ve never wanted it to stop at one Group 1 [win].

“Everybody wants to keep on going and I’d love to get another one on the board this year, and just really keep that momentum flowing, and look to better myself as a rider and as a person and the way I go about things as well.”

For Neindorf growth is a constant process.

“Whether it’s something small or large, you might ride everything really well, but there’s always something to improve on, so that’s the biggest thing for me, if I can look at my race rides last year compared to this year and I can see improvement, I’m happy,” he said.

Being chosen to ride in elite fields isn’t something he takes lightly.

“It’s just so special, when you look at the big picture and you’ve got a field of 12 horses, obviously there’s only 12 riders and to be picked as one of those riders is quite special,” he said.

“There’s a lot more than 12 jockeys here, so you’re getting trust put in you through owners, trainers, and its big prize money at stake.

“For them to put the trust in you to go out there and do that job at the top elite level, against other jockeys coming from interstate on a very competitive stage, it’s really important for a rider.

“It makes you feel a confidence boost because you’re there. You’re there for a reason and you put in the hard work, you’ve just got to trust your process and at the end of the day the results will take care of themselves if you go about the processes right.”

Adelaide born and raised, Neindorf said riding at Morphettville will always hold a special place, especially after last year’s 1200m triumph on home soil.

“To do it here, in front of the friends and family that were here on the day, having spent most of my career and upbringing [here], learning most of what I know today, right here, was probably the most special part of it,” he recounted.

“Mum and dad are here most race days … and I think to them as well, to see me out here every day and having success on the race days in general and then when the carnival rolls around it’s obviously a bigger thrill for all of us.

“We all get pumped up this time of year when these horses start coming back and you start identifying which ones you might be riding in which races.”

The Sportsbet Adelaide Racing Carnival kicks off on April 26 with the Sportsbet Sangster Stakes and Sportsbet Oaks, followed by the SA Derby on May 3 and the Sportsbet Goodwood on May 10.
