Cavalry Girl claims Stakes success
A storming run from Cavalry Girl blew away the field to win the Sportsbet Lightning Stakes (1050m) at Morphettville on Saturday.
After claiming an early lead, Cavalry Girl cruised away with just over 200m to go, jockey Todd Pannell letting the three-year-old go for a dominate near five-length success.
The victory was a fifth career win and a first at stakes level for Cavalry Girl, trained by Tom Dabernig.
“She came here in excellent form and had the form to win if everything went right, and thankfully it did,” assistant trainer Dara O’Meachair said after the win.
“She’s not an overly big filly, but has plenty of strength and has progressed from two to three. There’s no reason why she can’t do the same from three to four.”

Jockey Harry Grace rode a winning double on Saturday, guiding Harsh to victory in the Sportsbet Feed Handicap (2541m) and then claiming honours aboard Kalasec in the Aceit Transport Solutions Handicap (1100m), both victories also claiming a training double for Richard Jolly and Chantelle Jolly.

The Phillip Stokes stable won the Adelaide Trainers’ Premiership with 42 wins, seven more than the Richard Jolly and Chantelle Jolly yard, while Caitlin Tootell secured the metropolitan apprentice title with 25 wins.
Lingani claimed victory in a race to the line against some of Adelaide’s best sprinters earlier on Saturday’s card, the five-year-old mare winning the The Dominant Advantage Handicap (1100m).
