Lord Reims Stakes Day

23 February 2024

A massive day is on the cards for the Lord Reims Race Day at Morphettville tomorrow with three big races to be run on what is going to be a near perfect day.

The lead in to the 2024 TAB Adelaide Cup kicks up another gear with the running of the Group 3 Lord Reims Stakes over 2600m. There is a strong field formed for tomorrow’s race, with the top three receiving automatic entry in to the 2024 TAB Adelaide Cup.

After an impressive return in the Listed JRA Plate two-weeks ago, The Map looks to be the horse to beat for Dan Clarken & Oopy MacGillivaray as they combine with Lachie Neindorf again tomorrow.

For Gordon Richards & Damien Moyle they will be looking to Dominic Tourneur to build on Dixie Whistler’s recent run of placings and a drop in weight should see the mare in the mix again.

After working with the mare this week, Dominic Tournuer is looking forward to the ride.

“Very honest and always runs a place and will definitely get the trip.

“It’s a quality race and with the light weight will run a bold race,” he said.

There is a strong Victorian fleet coming to take on the 2600m race.

Tony & Calvin McEvoy will look to the lightly raced Unusual Pearl after back-to-back wins in Melbourne with Ben Price set to take the ride.

After a third in the 2023 Lord Reims, Grand Promenade returns to Morphettville with new trainer, Shane Jackson and is coming off a fourth-place finish at Caulfield earlier this month.

Along with the Lord Reims, we will also see the Listed Cinderella Stakes (2YO Fillies) and Listed City of Marion Stakes over 1200m.

The Cinderella Stakes has a big field assembled with a mix of interstate and local chances on show.

For Morphettville trainer, Byron Cozamanis, he has first up winner Talisay and he is pleased with the preparation from the stable filly.

“She’s done really well since her first up win.

“I’m really pleased with her work on the track this week and she has every chance of winning,” he said.

“While we didn’t draw as well as we would have liked, there are some green horses in the race which opens it up a little.

“Depending on how she comes through the race, we will look to the two-year-old race on Magic Millions Race Day at Murray Bridge and then give her a bit of a break,” he said.

In the City of Marion Stakes, Cody Reardon is looking to stable favourite, Grinzinger Prince to build on his third in the Listed Durbridge Stakes from January.

“He’s looking great, and I couldn’t have him in better shape ready for tomorrow’s race.

“It’s a big field, but we see the barrier as the main trouble in the race. He’s a horse that likes to get back and charge to the finish and Emily (Finnegan) will give him every opportunity early,” he said.

“If he wins tomorrow, it would be silly not to have a go at a Goodwood, as Group 1s are what we strive to win as trainers.

For the Travis Doudle stable, Struck By returns for his first run in a month as preparations increase for the upcoming Autumn Carnival.

The triple threat of Party Princess, Manhatten Times and Air Assault will be close to the finish as the Gluyas stable look to add to their black type wins. Tomorrow will also mark the return to racing for Caitlin Jones (who rides Manhatten Times) since her injury

We are set for a fantastic day of racing, with a nine-race card and the track team have prepared a great track.

  • Rail Position: 8m 1200 to W/P and 5m remainder
