Saturday is Cox Plate Day, my favourite day of racing, with so many memories from this wonderful day that are burnt in my memory bank.
Probably my number one pick is Manikato, who went past a $1 million in stake earnings, winning at The Valley on the same day Kingston Town won the first of his three Cox Plates.
However, there was also Surround winning the Cox Plate as a three-year-old filly, Dulcify destroying them before his sad Melbourne Cup Day finale.
We had the battle of the Kiwis and the great Bill Collins’ memorable race call of Bonecrusher defeating Our Waverley Star, and in more recent times the So You Think back-to-back, or the staggering Winx four-peat.
My tip for this Saturday – I’m going to suggest an each way play on the Chris Waller-trained underdog Aeliana.
Locally at Morphettville, we have nine races to get our thoughts around with the program kicking off at 12:22pm.
The day at Morphettville should start strong, with the opening three favourites all looking extremely hard to beat.
Blandford Baron gets us going in the first for trainer Travis Doudle, followed by the Andrew Gluyas-prepared mare Arugamama in Race 2, and then Act Natural for Phillip Stokes in the third of the day.
Beyond that I am keen on the chances of Collated in Race 8 for Matt Seyers with the blinkers being applied to his gear on Saturday.
It promises to be a wonderful day at Morphettville on Saturday, I hope to see you all there.
