The 2025 Spring Racing Carnival at Morphettville comes to a conclusion on Saturday with Champion Stakes Day.
There will be a nine-race card of racing on offer on the Morphettville Parks circuit with the rail in the true position.
Highlights on the program are further heats of the Sportsbet Gytrash, Happy Trails, and Riziz Series, along with the running of the Claude Haigh Memorial.
Of course, in Melbourne the curtain comes down on the VRC Carnival at Flemington with three Group 1’s set down for decision.
In the three big ones at Flemington, I’m going with Tentyris in the VRC Champions Sprint (1200m), Ceowulf in the Lexus Champion Mile (1600m) and Via Sistina in the TAB Champion Stakes (2000m).
At Morphettville, in the SkyCity Handicap (Heat of Sportsbet Gytrash Series) over 1250m, the opening race of the day it does seem like the favourite Zoupurring will be extremely hard to beat for the strong Phillip Stokes/Jacob Opperman combination.
Opperman is coming off a winning double at Morphettville on Melbourne Cup Day on Tuesday, and he has a very good book of rides this weekend.
Value wise on Saturday I feel The Wirrulla Boy for Byron Cozamis (Jnr) and Taylor Johnstone can run a nice race in the fourth on the card, the Sportsbet Get On Extra Handicap over 1400m, and Free Beer in the last, the Sportsbet More Paces Handicap (Heat of Sportsbet Riziz Series) over 1000m can also give a sight for Justin Pickering and Alysha Warren.
It promises to be a super day at the track and I look forward to seeing another healthy attendance.
