Terry’s Tips – January 31

29 January 2026

Here we go again in 2026!

It’s nice to be back and I hope you have enjoyed the first month of the new year.

After the cancellation of racing last Saturday, we front up at Morphettville this weekend for a massive 11-event program.

This weekend also brings an end to the first half of the racing season.

Looking at the Metropolitan Premierships, in the Trainers ranks we see the defending champion stable Phillip Stokes with a healthy seven-win buffer over nearest rival Michael Hickmott.

One win astern of Hickmott are the strong stables of Richard Jolly and Chantelle Jolly, Will Clarken, and Andrew Gluyas.

The Peter Pan of the saddle Jason Holder has virtually led the Jockey Premiership title all season, but Jacob Opperman is breathing down his neck, only two off the pace with Todd Pannell sitting third another three wins back.

All three have a strong book of rides on Saturday and each will partner at least one favourite on the card of racing.

Saturday’s feature race is the Sportsbet Durbridge Stakes to be run at weight for age over 1100 metres.

Prairie Flower will chase back-to-back wins in the Durbridge for trainer Will Clarken and jockey Kayla Crowther.

Early top pick with Sportsbet is Klabel, the recent winner of the Christmas Handicap for trainers Richard Jolly and Chantelle Jolly and jockey Jake Toeroek.

Sir Now is expected to run well again and look out for Sghirripa if he can find his best form.

It certainly promises to be an intriguing race and good luck to all competitors.

We get under way at 11.25am on Saturday and I am looking forward to being there for Racing.com with John Kelton.
