Terry’s Tips – May 16

14 May 2026

After three weeks of magnificent racing at the 2026 Sportsbet Adelaide Racing Carnival, we return to a nine-event program on the Morphettville Parks track this Saturday.

My individual standout highlights from the three previous weekends were as follows:

Sportsbet Australasian Oaks & Robert Sangster Stakes Day – the appearance of James McDonald at Morphettville. On the day we saw him boot home his first winner in South Australia when notching the Group 2 Tobin Bronze Stakes on Tycoon Star for the Lindsay Park Hayes brothers of Ben, Will, and JD.

McDonald would then front up in the following race and claim the Group 1 Sportsbet Australasian Oaks on Panova for Chris Waller, who was also on course.

Derby day – impossible to go past Phillip Stokes landing back-to-back wins in the Group 1 feature, Thomas Farms SA Derby when Wigmore prevailed for young Victorian rider Teo Nugent.

Goodwood day – I loved the story of Group 3 David Coles winner Brave Hustler. A $5000 Adelaide Magic Millions purchase it was a wonderful result for jockey Lauren Stojakovic and the training combination of Shane and Cassie Oxlade.

Looking ahead to finding a winner this Saturday, it appears not only a tough day on paper, but also the weather forecast is unpredictable.

Horses I am sure will run well are the following gallopers in the middle of the card.

In Race 5, the AIG Secruity Handicap (1250m), Murph for Paul Carey and Campbell Rawiller should be ready to fire third up from a spell with the blinkers going on.

Todd Pannell has a good book of rides including Royal Sway in Race 6, the Happy 80th Bruce Perry Handicap (1550m) for Sue and Jason Jaensch, and Deepfloat Diva in Race 7, the Sportsbet Same Race Multi Handicap (1000m) for Richard and Chantelle Jolly.

Best of luck and enjoy the day.
