Port Adelaide Cup win for Alainge

4 May 2026

Alainge kicked away late for an almost three length victory in the HKJC World Pool Port Adelaide Cup (2518m) at Morphettville on Saturday.

The win gave trainer Garret Lynch, who has dominated the South Australian country racing circuit, his biggest win of his career

Lynch, who began training in 2011, currently leads South Australia’s statewide trainers’ premiership with 63 wins, 17 ahead of Travis Doudle (46).

A tough staying mare, Alainge ran away strongly along the inside rail to hand Lynch a first stakes winner, as Sir Kingsford and Sea What I See battled away in the middle of the track.

Alainge was ridden brilliantly by jockey Harry Grace, who has recently relocated to South Australian from Victoria.

Grace took home riding honours on Saturday’s nine-race Derby Day card, booting home a double with his wins aboard Alainge and Dobbinair in the final race, the Sportsbet Fast Form Festival State Sprint Series Final (1200m).

Jockey Jason Holder is no stranger to stakes success and snared a third Adelaide Galvanising Industries Sir John Morphett Adelaide Guineas (1600m) win, guiding Tiptop Tori home to beat Amedi by just over one length.

Holder won the Guineas in 2015 aboard Magic Boy, and in 2023 on Party Princess.
