Callow comeback begins with victory
Jockey Noel Callow returned to the saddle at Morphettville Parks on Saturday and saluted straight away.
Callow guided Bold Secret to a two-length win in the Sportsbet Get On Extra Handicap (1400m).
The victory was also the first for the new training partnership of Phillip Stokes and eldest son Tommy Stokes, with younger brother Kerrin Stokes describing the success as “very special”.
“A first win for the partnership is great, we got a win for Tommy which is good,” Kerrin Stokes said.
Five-time Group 1-winning jockey Callow has returned to South Australia and is back riding after a 10-month ban.
Callow has ridden over 2000 winners across three decades in the saddle and has been training hard with the Stokes stable in the past few months to get back to race riding.
“It’s nice to ride a winner for Phillip because he’s supported me a lot,” Callow said.
“I’ve been going for three months – I’m enjoying being back – my parents are loving having me here.
“I’m just thankful for Phillip Stokes, for giving me the opportunity – it’s good to be home.”

Another new training partnership of Will Clarken and Charlotte Sorby also won their first race as a duo when Miso saluted by two lengths in the Sportsbet Blackbook Handicap (1400m) with jockey Rochelle Milnes on board.
The win was Sorby’s first official victory as a handler, and was trackside at Morphettville to celebrate.
“I started off just riding trackwork for him (Clarken) and slowly worked my way up as foreman. I’ve been an assistant (trainer) for a couple of years now,” Sorby said.
Milnes and jockey Caitlin Tootell both rode winning doubles during Saturday’s nine-race card.
Along with Miso, Milnes also guided home Amalfi Dreamer for Richard and Chantelle Jolly in the opening event of the day, the PFD Food Services Maiden Plate (1250m).
Tootell saluted with Sassy Little Miss in the ULE Hoof Oil Handicap (1000m) and then later when Maxildo won the Sportsbet Same Race Multi Handicap (1561m), the double also a winning training double for Jon O’Connor.
