Morphettville Wrap Up – 3 July

3 July 2023

It has been a big week for Morphettville trainers returning to Headquarters with winners from Balaklava on Wednesday, July 28  and Murray Bridge on Saturday, July 1.

Balaklava

It was mid-week racing at Balaklava and it didn’t take long to get a winner on the board for Peter and Belinda Blanch-trained Lotto Fight, who did just that to edge out Night Cruiser (Jason Cannon) and Exalted Kate (Jon O’Connor), making it a Morphettville trifecta.

Scott Westover returned a winner with Rising Legend crossing first under Sheriden Tomlinson, Scott happy to see the Gelding coming away with the win.

“Sheriden did everything right in the run, and it was good to get a win with him for the ownership group,” he said.

In just her fourth run, the Richard & Chantelle Jolly-trained Mulhall broke her maiden with a convincing win by three lengths, and Richard was happy with the family-owned Filly.

“She’s taken a bit of time early, but today was a nice win after a solid jumpout and won early,” he said.

Other results from the day saw Reel Whiskey (Richard & Chantelle Jolly), Enuff Red (Will Clarken & Niki O’Shea), Soelmn Promise (Peter & Belinda Blanch) come away with placings.

Murray Bridge

Dubenenko commenced her spring preparation in fine style with a last to first run under Teagan Voorham for Chris Bieg, who was very relieved after the race.

“It was a very good job for the team to get her back to this level.

Teagan handled her well and eased her through her gears and didn’t need to go from zero to hero, she was able to lengthen through the line and get the job done,” he said.

The Philip Stokes team had a good day at Murray Bridge with Celsius Star a winner in front of So Say Angel (Ryan Balfour) and Liberty Steps (Ben & JD Hayes), making it an all-Morphettville top-three. A repeat later in the day, with Oracle Son winning by nearly two lengths ahead of Winning Revolution (Jon O’Connor).

The Peter & Belinda Blanch team continued their recent run of form with a close win from Validated under Dom Tourneur, with Peter pleased that the hard work has turned their luck.

“He’s always shown us a bit and has a good will to win.

“He’s really stamped himself as a good little horse and he’s going to be a great watch over the next six to 12 months,” he said.

Other results saw Proven Correct and Walk Like An Angel (Leon Macdonald & Andrew Gluyas), Dixie Whistler (Gordon Richards & Damien Moyle), Pegasi (Travis Doudle), Karacasu (Richard & Chantelle Jolly), Winning Revolution, Wall West and Rockstar Meggsy (Jon O’Connor) all running a place on the day.
