Racing SA and SAJC announce Group 1 prizemoney boost
Sportsbet, Racing SA and SAJC are excited to announce a 7-year partnership which will see each of the Group 1 races during the Adelaide Racing Carnival worth a minimum of $1 million in prizemoney. This equates to $4 million dollars in prize money for the Group 1 races across the Adelaide Carnival in 2024.
The joint funding agreement between the three parties will see each of the Group 1 races increase in prizemoney from $500,000 to $1 million:
- $1 million The Robert Sangster Stakes (April 27)
- $1 million The Australasian Oaks (April 27)
- $1 million The SA Derby (May 4)
- $1 million The Goodwood (May 11)
The premium level of prizemoney in South Australia will attract the best quality horses, leading jockeys, and bigger sized race fields.

Racing SA Chair, Rob Rorrison, said the partnership will ensure Racing SA can deliver on its recently released Strategic Plan.
“Racing SA is delighted with today’s announcement which enhances our premium races. Stakeholder feedback during the consultation phase of the recently released Strategic Plan was consistent in highlighting the need to address the prizemoney levels of the four Group 1 races conducted in South Australia.
“The increase to the Group 1 prizemoney comes off the back of a 15% increase to prizemoney across the remainder of the racing program which commenced in July 2023 and two increases announced with Racing Rewards.”
