Sway stars as Pannell claims treble

18 May 2026

Royal Sway charged to a dominant three-length win in the Happy 80th Bruce Perry handicap (1550m) at Morphettville Parks on Saturday.

Trainer Sue Jaensch has always been confident on the daughter of Royal Symphony and she thinks the filly is more talented than half-brother, Sir Sway, a placegetter in the Sportsbet Goodwood as well as a two-time stakes winner.

In a tremendous result for connections, part-owner Bruce Perry, who celebrated his 80th birthday on May 3, celebrated winning his own race.

Jockey Todd Pannell steered Royal Sway home for her second career win, one of three winners for the in-form hoop on the day. Pannell was aboard Snallygaster in the AIG Security Handicap (1250m) and later in the day he piloted Synchro to victory in the Sportsbet Fast Form Handicap (1300m).

Pannell’s victory aboard Snallygaster was part of a fantastic day for trainers Richard and Chantelle Jolly, who earlier had success with Wine Snob in the The Fotobase Group Maiden Plate (1400m) ridden by Jackson Murphy as well as an interstate feature victory with Losesomewinmore in the Hilton Nicholas TAB Straight Six (1200m) at Flemington.

Eight On The Dot started Saturday’s nine-race care with back-to-back wins, claiming a near one length win in The Dominant Advantage Handicap (1950m) for trainer Scott Whittle and jockey Caitlin Tootell.

The veteran gelding was fresh off of a victory the previous Wednesday at Gawler over 2112m, before taking out honours nearly 72 hours later.
