National Jockeys Celebration Day
This Saturday, we will recognise National Jockeys Celebration Day, a national day of remembrance and recognition for Australian jockeys held at the commencement of the racing season on the first weekend in August each year.
The day celebrates the achievements of past and present jockeys, honours those who have lost their lives, and raises awareness and support for the National Jockeys’ Trust.
The National Jockeys’ Trust plays an important role in supporting former and current jockeys, as well as their families, who are facing challenging circumstances due to serious injury, illness, or the loss of a jockey. Since its establishment, the Trust has provided assistance to more than 480 jockeys and their families, with support exceeding $4.5 million.
Join Us in Recognition
As part of National Jockeys Celebration Day, a special ceremony will take place following Race 5, with jockeys assembling in the Mounting Yard.
Terry McAuliffe will deliver an introduction acknowledging our jockeys and ceremonies being held across the country. Reverend Bruce Hicks will then deliver a prayer and blessing of the track, followed by a minute’s silence to remember those who have lost their lives.
Race 6 will be dedicated as our National Jockeys Celebration Day Race, with the top weight wearing the National Jockeys’ Trust branded silks in recognition of this significant occasion.
