Morphettville Wrap Up – 24 June

The rain did its best to hold off on Saturday at Morphettville as we worked through a nine-race card on the main track, but come in late in the day.

Cool The Jets in name only, the Peter and Belinda Blanch trained gelding opened up the field and won by over two lengths in the first race of the day.

Belinda Blanch was pleased with the run, saying he’s very cheeky and full of personality wrapped up in such a small package.

“We’ve always had faith in this little guy.

“We didn’t think the wet track would be a concern, and his first up run was full of merit, but he got a little tired at the end,” she said.

We also saw Morphettville trainers fill the places with Rubini (Gordon Richards and Damien Moyle) and Lines of Glory (Philip Stokes) finishing second and third respectively.

The Ryan Balfour trained-Picargo kept up his winning ways with stable apprentice, Alana Livesey steering him home for win number eight from 35 starts.

Affectionally known as Franc the Tank around the stables, Ryan Balfour was very happy when speaking about the stable character.

“From the start I always liked him, his athleticism is fantastic.

“You go to war with him. He keeps stepping up each preparation and I’m so proud of him,” he said.

Purchased at Magic Millions earlier in 2023, Shadowfax is a lightly framed horse, but trainer Chris Bieg was happy with his first run, coming home a very close second.

“He trialled really well at Murray Bridge, and we had high expectations for his run on Saturday.

“Teagan (Voorham) rode him beautifully, her feedback after the race was very complimentary, and she thought he did enough to win,” he said.

Racing takes a little break from headquarters for the next two weeks, with a return on Saturday 15 July.
