We got a taste of what is to come as Morphettville was met with sunshine as we enjoyed the spectacle of the nine-race card on the first Saturday of Spring.
It was a hotly contested race for Kayla Crowther as she steered home the Phillip Stokes-trained Regal Azmon home in a close finish.
Adam Brewster said the gelding didn’t have much luck in his last race at Morphettville, but he toughed it out.
“He’s lightly raced and to get to this rating in such a short time is a great result.
“Kayla had to get him in to the race a little earlier than we thought, but it worked out perfectly for us,” he said.
It was a strong return to the winners list for Flight Deck who saluted under Kelsey Hannan for Damien Moyle.
Damien Moyle was happy with the result, calling the gelding a bit of an enigma.
“He’s got ability and I have always thought he could win a city race.
“The cards went his way today, and the breakaway leader really helped him out a lot early,” he said.
The Richard & Chantelle Jolly stable have continued their 2022/23 season form with five-year-old gelding Keep Reading running a dominant race under Jake Toeroek.
Richard Jolly said post-race that he’s been a very consistent horse for the stable.
“A fantastic starter and we looked to get him across to the front early.
“Once he put a couple of lengths on the field at the top of the straight, we knew he would take the win,” he said.
Other results from the day saw Burning Bright, Hopon Harry, Party Princess, and Arugamama (Andrew Gluyas), Episodic, Boognish and Sweetened (Will Clarken & Niki O’Shea) all come away with places.
Finals fever hits the AFL this week and we are set for a Grand Final race day at Morphettville on Saturday September 30. Packages for the GF marquee are selling quick, so book now to avoid disappointment.
