All eyes will be on Morphettville this weekend as preparations for the Adelaide Racing Carnival go up a gear with the listed Clare Lindop Stakes and Matrice Stakes set to run on the main track.
It’s a stacked field in the $120,000 Matrice Stakes, with a number of horses coming off of recent Stakes races and returning from spells to run the 1200m on Saturday.
Three talented Will Clarken & Niki O’Shea runners will contest the Matrice Stakes on Saturday; last start winner Boognish, Ballon D’Or who has won three of her last five starts, and 2022 Matrice Stakes winner Ironclad returning for his first run since 26 October 2023.
For the Richard & Chantelle Jolly stable, Pudding returns from a spell following a win in the Listed John Letts Cup in November 2023. The five-year-old gelding will be going at three wins in a row on his return.
There are also a number of runners making the trip from across the border, with the most notable being Nunthorpe, trained by Peter Moody & Katherine Coleman. The mare has managed four wins from her nine starts and is coming off a second at the Valley (by 0.3l) where she showed amazing closing speed in the final 100m.
After finishing third to Pudding in the John Letts Cup in 2023, Party Princess made up ground in the home straight to finish fifth in the City of Marion Stakes in her first race after a spell.
Trainer, Andrew Gluyas is looking forward to seeing the mare in action again on the weekend.
“We’re on track for Saturday’s race are really looking forward to kicking off our Autumn campaign with her,” he said.
“She returned well in the City of Marion first up, as we look to build her up to the mile.
“There is still a little more improvement to come and hope to have her ready to go come The Cummings Stakes (formerly R A Lee Stakes) in May,” he said.
For the Clare Lindop Stakes, the Peter Moody & Katherine Coleman stable have strong claims with Quickster going into the race as the hot favourite.
After leading for the majority of her last start, the lightly raced Seeking Stardom for Andrew Gluyas will be looking to break her maiden in a black type race.
The Travis Doudle-trained Sentimental Flame won second up last prep and looks set to feature in an open race.
Having only finished out of the placings one in her first four starts, the Danny O’Brien-trained Zaszou will combine with Liam Riordan looking to make it back-to-back wins after a strong 2.75l win last start. The filly is up in class and distance but could feature at the end of the race.
After falling short in last years edition of the Listed Hill Smith Stakes, the in-form Chris Bieg stable will be hoping that Diamonds Choice can build on a strong two-year old year.
We are set for a fantastic day of racing, with a nine-race card and the track team have prepared a great track.
