Weekend Recap – 10 August

12 August 2024

If the first meeting at Headquarters for the 2024/25 season is anything to go by, we are in-store for a BIG one!

You could have been forgiven for thinking it was spring racing with the sun shining and seeing a number of trainers preparing for their spring racing assaults.

For the Richard & Chantelle Jolly stable, they started the season as they did in 2023 with See You In Heaven taking out the Group 3 Behemoth Stakes.

Richard Jolly knew she was switched on for the run from watching her in the mounting yard.

“Once I saw her in the mounting yard I thought she was really switched on,” he said.

“To see her do that and me thinking she wasn’t quite ready it very exciting.

“I really want to go to the Leon Macdonald (August 24th at Morphettville) with her now,” he said.

The Clarken & O’Shea stable continued their winning ways with a race-to-race double from Reservoir Dog (Jacob Opperman) and Sachem (Kayla Crowther).

Sachem continued his recent form to make it back-to-back wins (including a six length win last start) for the stable after running a place three out the last six races.

Delta Tango scored at odds for Travis Doudle, making it one win from three starts since the mare joined the stable last year.

The Chris Bieg-trained Volatage Point has returned to work in a strong way with a second win from as many starts after a short freshen up.

Other results saw Montepulciano and The Golden Fist (Richard & Chantelle Jolly), Brave Star (Phillip Stokes), Komachi (Will Clarken & Niki O’Shea), My Khalifa and Sabermetric (Gordon Richards & Damien Moyle) and Air Assault (Andrew Gluyas) all running places on the day.
