A storming finish down the Morphettville straight by Wigmore has handed trainer Phillip Stokes back-to-back Thomas Farms SA Derby (2518m) wins on Saturday.
Wigmore flew home with Victorian jockey Teodore Nugent on board, the hoop putting the three-year-old in the perfect spot behind top hope Kaye Jay.
Nugent then peeled off the back of Kaye Jay with just over 300m to go, sprinting to the line to edge out Strictly Business on the winning post.

Wigmore’s victory handed Stokes a ninth Group 1 success and second Thomas Farms SA Derby with OTI Racing after winning last year’s race with Femminile.
Post-race, Stokes wouldn’t confirm to a Group 1 Queensland Derby start at the end of the month but believes Wigmore could be a Melbourne Cup horse.
The win was a fantastic result for Nugent, who celebrated his second win at Group 1 level, but not like his first success, he didn’t have to share this one. Nugent won the 2021 Oakleigh Plate on Portland Sky, but in a dead-heat with Celebrity Queen.
Jockey John Allen was narrowly denied a fifth Thomas Farms SA Derby success aboard runner-up Strictly Business, while Autumn Mystery finished third.
