The Australian Culinary Federation held their South Australian Apprentice competition this week, with Morphettville represented by four culinary students lead by Executive Chef, Steven Clark.
The competition took place at the University of South Australia kitchens with over 20 students competing for the 2023 SA Culinary Student of the Year; the winner to represent South Australia at the National Finals later this year.
It was a fantastic day for our students, Mark Romantico, Rabbie Garcia, Alicia Aclis, and Ian Perez; a day made even more memorable with Mark winning a gold medal and being named the 2023 SA Culinary Student of the Year and Rabbie, Alicia, and Ian all respectively earning Silver Medals also!
Steven Clark spoke highly of the skills of each student and the results of the day were confirmation of their dedication to their craft.
“Each of the team were confident in their menus and cooked from the heart.
“It was great to see them showcase their cultures in their cooks, and I am looking forward to showcasing these dishes on future Morphettville menus,” he said.
Morphettville CEO, Grant Mayer was pleased to hear of the results.
“To have four of Steve’s team represent themselves and Morphettville and achieve the results they did is fantastic.
“Steve has spent the past 12 months building an exceptional team, and we are excited to see further development as we move to new offerings out of our new Event Centre,” he said.
As the 2023 South Australian winner, Mark will now go on to represent Australia in Sydney on September 13.
It’s an exciting time to visit Morphettville as we continue to offer new initiatives out of the kitchen and in the coming months with the impending opening of the Wolf Blass ‘The Man’ Event Centre, soon to be available for event and function bookings.
