Guru Warrior shows staying power

3 November 2025

Guru Warrior continued his winning run at Morphettville on Saturday, securing a third consecutive victory and further establishing himself as one of South Australia’s leading stayers in the making.

The four-year-old again, trained by Andrew Gluyas, showed his quirks, drifting sharply toward the outside fence in the straight, but jockey Jason Holder kept him focused to win comfortably by three lengths.

Gluyas is confident the gelding’s racing manners will improve with experience as he moves up in class.

Holder enjoyed a productive day, also guiding Mt Niseko to victory in the 1100m sprint. The six-year-old, trained by Chris Bieg, has now won three of its past four starts since arriving from Singapore earlier this year.

Aitch D’amico returned to form, breaking a long drought with his first win since December 2023.

There were several surprise results later in the program, highlighted by Mr George’s $46 success and a strong win from Snoopy Now in the Benchmark 74 (1600m). Snoopy Now will back up in Tuesday’s John Letts Cup (1800m) at Morphettville.

Riding honours were shared between Holder and apprentice Alysha Warren, who has quickly made her mark since relocating from Victoria in July, posted her first metropolitan double with victories aboard Grinzinger Champ and Thunder Shoc.

At Flemington, former Morphettville trainer Phillip Stokes came close to success, with Regal Award running second to Panova in the Channel 9 Carbine Club Stakes.
