Morphettville Wrap Up – 15 July

17 July 2023

It was back to the Parks track on the weekend as we saw nine races on an overcast day.

It was a hot start for Travis Doudle, with two of his three wins coming in a race-to-race double to start the day with Pegasi (Race 1) and Jaguary (Race 2) crossing the line first.

Speaking on Jaguary’s run, Travis Doudle was quietly confident after his last run.

“He did a really good job last start and hit the line well.

“He’s a fantastic horse and it’s his first win for a year, but we knew he had more in him,” he said.

“He doesn’t travel too well, but we will be looking at another run at Morphettville and hopefully there is a bit more rain to help him with that,” Doudle said.

Travis and Alana Livesey combined again late in the day with Merchant Boss running a strong race to provide both a treble on the day.

The Richard and Chantelle Jolly combination continued their dominant 2022/23 season with a double through Wild Imagination (Race 4) and Cold Case (Race 6).

Chantelle Jolly was full of compliments for the mare after a strong performance.

“You would love to have a stable full of her, she’s just so tough.

“She was three wide for a bit, but she had a bit of a breather coming into straight and finished strong,” she said.

It was another successful day for the Will Clarken and Nikki O’Shea stable who also come away with a winning double.

Lord Luker come from the back of the field in a strong finish to the line, and closing out the day was the race favourite, Jean Valjean winning by over a length.

After an impressive win first up this spell, the star Chris Bieg 2-year-old, Dubenenko came up short in the Oaklands Plate.

Although happy with the run, Bieg said the 1400m may have been a little too much for her this start.

“Coming up against two Victorian runners who both won at 1330m last start was always going to be a test for her,” he said.

“Teagan’s feedback post-race was that she ran a good race but was a little soft at the 1400m.

“Dubenenko has pulled up well, and now we have the decision to go for one more run or freshen her up ready for the Spring,” Bieg said.

After the success of our Twilight Race Day in 2022, we are excited to announce that we will be adding a second Twilight Race Day this October, with tickets on sale now!
