State clash set for The Valley

There will be a distinct local flavour at The Valley this weekend, with a South Australian showdown in the opening race on Cox Plate Day this Saturday.

In the first race on the card, the Strathmore Community Bendigo Bank Imperatriz Sprint over 1000m, the Will Clarken-trained Extremely Lucky goes up against the Phillip Stokes-trained Red Hot Nicc.

Stokes and jockey Lachlan Neindorf will then combine with Snow Mercy in the HKJC World Pool Red Anchor Stakes, where there will again be a SA showdown against the Richard and Chantelle Jolly-trained Virtual Illusion, while Shocap will run for Stokes in the Symal Crockett Stakes.

Richard and Chantelle Jolly will saddle up New Zealand runner Klabel in the Cirka McEwan Stakes over 1200m.

Former Morphettville trainer Stokes also has eight runners across the nine races at Morphettville on Saturday, headlined by Act Natural in the Hahn Maiden Plate over 1050m, while he also has three runners at The Valley on Friday night.

Bold Secret will race in the MSC Signs Handicap with Neindorf on board, while Shirshov will feature in the Ladbrokes 55 Second Challenge Series 1 – Final and Regal Amazon will race in the Mittys VOBIS Gold Star.

Stokes also has two runners in Ballarat on Friday night, Rathlin Express will feature in the Power FM Maiden Plate over 1200m, while Effusiv will compete in the Sportsbet More Places BM62 Handicap.
