2024 Adelaide Racing Carnival

The 2024 Adelaide Racing Carnival has been revamped as we see three weekends of Group 1 Saturdays starting on Saturday April 27th.

It's a Group 1 double-header on the first Saturday as we see the new $1million Group 1 races kick off with the Australasian Oaks for 3-year-old fillies (2000m) and the Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) for fillies and mares get us started on April 27th.

Saturday, May 4 sees the stayers take centre stage for the Group 1 SA Derby (2500m).

The Carnival will conclude on Saturday, May 11 with South Australia's sprinting crown jewel, the Group 1 Goodwood over 1200m.

There are a host of support races across each of the days which only elevates your on-course race day experience.

Australasian Oaks and Robert Sangster Stakes

The Australasian Oaks is a race over 2000m for 3YO fillies with some great horses having previously won the race. The 2023 Australasian Oaks was won by Affaire A Suivre for John Allen and the Ciaran Maher/David Eustace stable.

Earmarked as one of Australia's best sprint races for fillies and mares, the Robert Sangster Stakes always attracts a strong field. The highest profile winner of the race is Black Caviar in 2012 which saw over 20,000 people trackside to witness her run.

Ciaran Maher and David Eustace combined with John Allen and Ruthless Dame to win the 2023 Robert Sangster.

South Australian Derby

First run in 1860, the South Australian Derby (2500m) is a great testing field for the 3YO stayers across Australia. One of the most popular winners was Subzero in 1992 who also went on to win the Melbourne Cup in the same year.

The 2023 edition was taken out by the Patrick Payne-trained Dunkel with a blistering turn of foot under Billy Egan in the final 200m to win by nearly a length.

The Goodwood

The final Autumn Group 1 Racing Carnival is the time honoured Goodwood. It is a staple of the Adelaide Racing Carnival and attracts the best sprinters across Australia.

The most notable winner of The Goodwood is Black Caviar in her penultimate ride in 2012.

Taking out three of the four Group 1's in 2023, the Ciaran Maher and David Eustace-trained Royal Merchant was steered home by Michael Dee to close out the Carnival.
