A storming run home down the Morphettville straight by Golden Horizon gave the Doudle family the perfect honour on Saturday.
Golden Horizon, with jockey Connor Murtagh on board, fought back from a five-length deficit to win the Cystic Fibrosis Race Day Event Handicap (1200m) for trainer Travis Doudle.
It was an emotional triumph, the gelding winning the race named in the honour of Saturday’s second annual Cystic Fibrosis Race Day Luncheon, a fundraising event founded by Doudle’s wife, Emmah Doudle.
The three-year-old does have a sense of the moment, after also winning on the Cystic Fibrosis Race Day Luncheon day last year.

Golden Horizon settled midfield was well back in the field with 500m to go, with trainer Doudle not confident in victory.
“Halfway through that race, I thought he was no chance,” Doudle said.
“I was a bit surprised to see him get through that wet track, he’s often not loved that soft going.”
Royal Sway won a second consecutive race for trainers Sue and Jason Jaensch, claiming a half-length victory in the Sportsbet Feed Handicap (1600m) with jockey Todd Pannell on board.
Apprentice jockey Alysha Warren scored riding honours on Saturday’s nine-race card, riding a double aboard Sir Now in the Sportsbet Green Tick Handicap (1050m) for trainer Darryl Hewitt and Sir Leapalot for trainer Ryan Hannemann in the Fleurieu Milk Company Handicap (1100m).
