Trainer Sarah Rutten has eyes for next month’s Sportsbet Adelaide Cup (3200m) after Eventually’s thrilling victory in the Sportsbet Lord Reims Stakes (2600m) at Morphettville on Saturday.
Eventually, with jockey Teagan Voorham on board, saluted in a photo finish to edge out Highland Bling. The last-gasp success giving the mare a strong case to be in contention for the $350,000 Sportsbet Adelaide Cup.
Even better for Rutten was fellow Sportsbet Adelaide Cup contender and stablemate Crimson Vine finished strong to run third.
Rutten will push ahead to the Sportsbet Adelaide Cup (3200m) on March 9 with both mares, providing they come through their Lord Reims test in good order. Saturday’s Lord Reims win was also Voorham’s first Group-level success.

Power Beau then stunned the field to win, holding on to win the Sportsbet City Of Marion Stakes (1200m). The victory was a maiden stakes success for trainer Wayne Brown, and a welcome home present for jockey Will Price.
Rebel Tuesday, with jockey Jacob Opperman on board, roared down the straight to win the Sportsbet Cinderella Stakes (1050m), edging out Never Ordinary, while Somewhere Soon also took control heading to the winning post to outlast Tyusix and Flaming Eyes in the Sportsbet Adelaide Cup Day Monday March 9 Handicap (1800m) and Mathematician impressed with a come-from-behind win in the ULE Hoof Oil Handicap (1050m).
Premiership-leading jockey Jason Holder rode a winning double, aboard Somewhere Soon and Super Lad in the Adelaide Galvanising Handicap (1200m), while the Will Clarken stable claimed a double with Mathematician and Invertational in the Daniel “Mini’ Balfour Memorial Handicap (1050m).
