Tweeter shines in Parks triumph

9 June 2026

Tweeter upstaged the more-fancied Portarlington to give apprentice jockey Tala Hutchinson a second metropolitan victory in as many weeks at Morphettville Parks on Saturday.

Hutchinson claimed her debut metropolitan win a fortnight ago at Murray Bridge on Like A Drifter and now has a win at Morphettville to add to her resume, with Tweeter claiming the Quayclean Handicap (1250m).

“It’s a really big thrill (to get a win here on a Saturday),” Hutchinson said.

“That was metro win number two so hopefully there are plenty more.”

On board Tweeter for the second consecutive start, Hutchinson had the filly on the speed and won in a thrilling finish.

It was a maiden win for Tweeter at her second start for trainers Dan Clarken and Oopy MacGillivray.

“Dan (Clarken) has been saying all week to jump and lead and she was able to today,” Hutchinson said.

“When they headed her she had a think about it and then lay out but she was able to get the bob.”

The Phillip Stokes-trained Portarlington jumped as the short-priced favourite and had every chance to strike late, but was unable to get the nod in a very close finish.

Stokes however didn’t have to wait long for a winner, with jockey Will Price leading Australia Forever to victory in the next race, the M&J Chickens Maiden Plate (1250m).

Jockey Jason Holder took riding honours on the day, with a winning double aboard Omaha Dawn for Andrew Gluyas in the Croser Handicap (1000m) before leading home Mystic Wonder for Gordon Richards & Damien Moyle in the SA Life Magazine Handicap (1550m).

The Richard & Chantelle Jolly stable had an impressive day, taking out two winners, including a clean sweep of the placings in The Fotobase Group Handicap (1000m).

Norheim, with Rochelle Milnes on board, outlasted the Tayla Johnstone-led Bardigrub to win by a nose, while Skadoosh, ridden by Teagan Voorham, claimed third for the perfect podium.

The Jolly stable completed the winning double when Harsh, with Harry Grace on board, was a four-length winner in the Sportsbet Same Race Multi Handicap (2400m).
