Mansiere magic ends long drought

Mansiere stunned the field in a shock boilover in the Polywave – your partners in poly Handicap (1100m) at Morphettville on Saturday.

The five-year old gelding snapped almost a two-year winless drought for trainer Karen Letts-Maund, who also ended a 13-year drought with a first metropolitan winner since May, 2013.

The win was an impressive ride from apprentice jockey Brooke King, who saved ground aboard the son of Brave Smash to claim the one-length victory.

It was the first success on the day for King, who rode a winning double after winning aboard Sir Leapalot , in the Aceit Transport Solutions Handicap (1200m).

A storming run down the Morphettville straight saw Ginger Sinner claim a fifth win for trainer Paula Trenwith in the SAJC Membership Available June 27 Handicap (1200m) the first win of a maiden metropolitan double for the trainer, who also won later in the day with Babayka taking top honours in the Sportsbet Race Replays Handicap (1050m).

Trenwith purchased Ginger Sinner for $15,000 after five starts with Richard and Chantelle Jolly from September-November 2024.

The four-year-old gelding has won five races since Trenwith bought Ginger Sinner from Richard and Chantelle Jolly, including four at metro level – including last year’s $105,000 Riziz Final (1200m).

Apprentice jockey Caitlin Tootell has been aboard for four of those wins, and was again onboard before claiming her own riding double when Babayka saluted.

Nicajon continued his fantastic run of form for trainer Mick Shepherdson, claiming a second win from three starts in the Happy Birthday Pam Nunn 70 Handicap (1500m).

Jockey Campbell Rawiller got the 11-year-old gelding clear with 200m to go and he stormed home to edge out Canny Defense, Wind Rush and Maxildo in a great finish.

Kayla Crowther also produced a great ride in the following event, the Trackside With Tony Handicap (1800m) leading Peta’s Heart to a commanding win for trainer Will Clarken.
